Our latest project, Elm, nestled in the leafy suburb of Surrey Hills, Victoria, embodies this philosophy by seamlessly integrating sustainability, music, and art into its design.
A Symphony of Design and Function
Elm was conceived as a sanctuary where architecture and landscape exist in continuous dialogue, mirroring the homeowners’ deep appreciation for nature. The residence opens inward to a central courtyard, creating a serene oasis that invites the outdoors in.
Understanding the unique lifestyles of the occupants, we incorporated bespoke features to cater to their artistic pursuits. Including both personal retreats and a professional, student-facing music studio, an optimal environment for teaching and performing.
Adjacent to the studio, expansive decking extends into the garden, with thoughtfully designed steps that transform the area into an intimate amphitheatre. This versatile space allows for outdoor performances and gatherings, fostering a communal atmosphere where music becomes a shared experience.

An Artful Residence
Collaborating closely with interior designer St Tique Studio, we curated spaces that highlight the homeowners art collection and attention to detail. The result is a gallery-like atmosphere through the home.
Sustainability at Its Core
Elm is not only a haven for art and music but also a model of sustainable living. Achieving a 7.3-star NatHERS rating, the home integrates features designed to minimise environmental impact while enhancing daily life. A 17,000-litre rainwater storage system captures and stores rainwater for household use, reducing reliance on external water resources.
Additionally, a 10.88kW solar system paired with an 11kW battery harnesses renewable energy, significantly lowering the home’s carbon footprint. These initiatives align with our commitment to creating residences that are as environmentally responsible as they are beautiful.
Invisible Architecture: Blending with Nature
Elm exemplifies our philosophy of “Invisible Architecture,” where structures are designed to blend seamlessly with their surroundings, leaving minimal impact on the landscape and the planet. Prioritising sustainability and a harmonious relationship with nature, Elm stands as a environmentally conscious.
Elm
Elm stands as a testament to the possibility of creating homes that are both aesthetically pleasing and environmentally conscious. By thoughtfully integrating spaces for music and art within a sustainable framework, we’ve crafted a residence that not only meets the unique needs of its occupants but also contributes positively to the environment.
At The Sociable Weaver, we are proud to present Elm, a home that truly performs—sustainably, musically, and artistically.
