Set amidst eight acres on the Surf Coast, Driftwood stands as a testament to off-grid living, embodying complete self-sufficiency in power, water, and waste management. This home exemplifies the three P's of Intention – People, Planet, and Profit – seamlessly integrating the owners’ deep commitment to sustainability throughout all elements of the design. With an elongated low profile, Driftwood takes advantage of the sweeping native Australian bush landscape. The material palette is inspired by the rugged and durable qualities of the iconic Australian outback shed, utilising minimal raw finishes of galvanised corrugated steel and shiplap timber cladding to withstand and weather with the harsh coastal environment. The open plan kitchen, dining and living space is the heart of the home, fostering connection while allowing space for retreat and rest. Driftwood's creation reflects the collaborative efforts of businesses and individuals, illustrating the transformative power of choice and intention. Driftwood offers spacious comfort and beauty while treading lightly on the Earth.

As a renovation project to an existing heritage home, it can sometimes be challenging to reach our carbon reduction targets. The existing house had a low energy rating due to lack of insulation and high performance glazing, while also being powered by a gas hot water system and heated by a gas-powered hydronic system.
