6.6 Star NatHERS Rating

Saltbush balances heritage preservation with contemporary living, creating a peaceful and spacious urban retreat on a compact city site. A modern two-storey extension clad in recycled red brick and corrugated black roofing, harmonises with the painted brick and terracotta roof of the existing house. From the street, only a glimpse of the extension's tapered roof is visible, respectfully complimenting the heritage streetscape. Behind the existing facade, the extension slowly revealing itself as you move through the house, culminating in a tranquil backyard oasis. Bi-fold doors and windows in the living room expand the sense of space and blur the line between indoors and outdoors. A neutral interior palette fosters a tranquil atmosphere, seamlessly blending the old with the new.

As a renovation project to an existing heritage home, it can sometimes be challenging to reach our carbon reduction targets. The existing house had a low energy rating due to lack of insulation and high performance glazing, while also being powered by a gas hot water system and heated by a gas-powered hydronic system.
