The Bungalow was created as an exploration into small footprint living. The home heroes light, height and functionality to create a space that at only 112sqm in living area, feels spacious and expansive. Designed as a place to retreat, The Bungalow's minimalist design stems beyond aesthetics and mirrors the intention of the lifestyle housed within. It’s a physical reflection of the desire to strip back our lives and celebrate function, practicality and the capability of space to inspire human behaviour. The ground floor of The Bungalow houses the main bedroom, bathroom and open plan living, dining and kitchen. Above the living area the ceiling soars to double height and a study nook, two bedrooms and a bathroom sit above on a second mezzanine level. Clever compact design allows for a European laundry, storage and plenty of spots to house surfboards, coolers and anything else you might need for a day on the rugged coast of South Gippsland. The Bungalow is a reminder that we don’t need large quantities of physical space to feel spacious.

As a renovation project to an existing heritage home, it can sometimes be challenging to reach our carbon reduction targets. The existing house had a low energy rating due to lack of insulation and high performance glazing, while also being powered by a gas hot water system and heated by a gas-powered hydronic system.
